Education Through Music - the home of children's music

Education Through Music is run by Chris Smith who is an experienced musician, songwriter and Advisory Teacher for ICT & SEN.

Education Through Music write and produce songs and associated learning materials specifically aimed at delivering the National Curriculum and The Early Years Curriculum. We promote the integration of music with other activities for early years settings, schools and other settings such as community groups and out of school clubs.

Customers and partners are varied and include Early Years Development and Child Care Partnerships, LEA Advisers, schools and pre-school groups throughout the U.K, National Childminding Association and the Pre-School Learning Alliance. Others include Channel 4, Crick software, RSPB, The Geography Association and John Murray Publishers.

The main theme underpinning the materials and workshops is the promotion of music and songs as a support for many different types of learning activity and situations. Learning with fun is a key feature. This practical approach appeals especially to those who have little confidence or experience in teaching music.

Education Through Music was first formed in 1984 by Mike Bishop and myself to develop resources that Teachers with no musical background could introduce or underpin schemes of work and cross curricula activities. Since then we have:

  • developed over 150 songs
  • facilitated 100 + workshops around the U.K
  • attended, and performed at, numerous conferences and festivals and worked with 1000s of child care / teaching professionals and children
